How
to Start a Group
You
are about to experience the adventure of seeing God work
in your family and use you to help strengthen the
marriages of others in your group. You do not need to be
an expert Bible teacher to lead a HomeBuilders group.
Below
are some quick steps for getting started.
Step
1: Pray as a Couple
Before
you talk to others about joining your HomeBuilders group,
make a few preparations as a couple. As a couple, commit to
each other and to God to make the HomeBuilders study a high
priority for the six to twelve weeks it will take to complete
the study. Discuss how much you will share about your own
marriage. Don’t expect others to speak openly unless
you set the example as leaders. Commit to pray regularly for
the couples in your group. Perhaps the most important preparation
is a commitment to encourage your spouse no matter what happens
Step 2: Brainstorm Names
Think of couples you know that would benefit from HomeBuilders.
(That’s almost everyone)
Step
3: Invite Potential People
Invite the couples from your list to a “get-together” at
your house. Personal invitations are the most successful.
Make it fun and remember that food attracts people.
Step
4: Choose a Study
Make sure you choose a study that interests you and that
will cause growth in your own family. Click
here to find out about all of the studies in the HomeBuilders
Series®.
Each person in the group will need a book. Books can be purchased
online
or by calling FamilyLife at 1-800-FLTODAY.
Step
5: Share Your Vision
At
the get-together event, share your vision for HomeBuilders
and challenge them to join you in learning how to build a
God-honoring home. Some of our additional resources may be
helpful in sharing your vision. Have an “organizational
meeting” to agree on a time and place to meet, childcare
arrangements, refreshments/social time, etc. Offer what you
can commit to and present a proposed calendar.
Ask for a commitment from each couple by having them purchase
study guides. (The Couples Packs are $19.99 and include two
study guides.) These studies can be purchased online
or by calling FamilyLife at 1-800-FLTODAY.
